The mission of the Protection of the Holy Virgin Mary Orthodox Church (PHVM.org) is to proclaim the Holy Gospel to anyone and everyone in Southern Illinois.
We take very seriously the words of Our Lord Jesus Christ when he said: "Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them." (St. Matthew 18:19-20) Our Lord Jesus Christ has also said: "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened." (St. Matthew 7:7-8: also St. Luke 11:9-10)
We would like the church to be a place where every one truly seeks God and enters into to fervent prayer.
We place great emphasis in the breaking of bread as Our Lord Jesus Christ commanded us at the Last Supper: "And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them saying, 'This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me. 'Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, 'This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.'" (St. Luke 22:19-20)
This we celebrate in the Divine Liturgy every Sunday and at other time following the command of our Our Lord Jesus Christ. We partake of the Body and Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ and enter in communion with Christ, Our God and one another and all become one Body with Christ Our God.
In the love and peace of Christ, Archpriest Frederick
